A Little Girl in a Stocking Cap

Dispatch Dated: 2005-12-19

Looking out of my balcony, I saw a little Thai girl, all of six years old, bouncing down my soi in a red and white Christmas stocking cap. At first it struck me as odd: why is a Buddhist child, in a tropical country, running around wearing a Christmas hat?

It’s not a hard question to answer if you think about at it from a Thai perspective: its fun.

Christmas is fun. Hats are fun. Wearing a Christmas hat? Twice the fun.

It’s fun. Thais know how to appreciate fun.
